Two suspects in home invasion arrested after car chase
The two top administrators for the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and Anniston police officers just completed a high-speed chase throughout Anniston. Two suspects in an Anniston home invasion were arrested.
Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson and Chief Deputy Matthew Wade were patrolling after hearing of a home invasion robbery on 35th Street when they saw the suspect vehicle near Norwood Homes, Wade said around 3:45 p.m. today shortly after the chase had ended.
The driver drove off in speeds upwards of 70 mph, Wade said, in a chase that ran on Noble Street, 34th Street and Blue Mountain Road.
When two Anniston police cars came to their assistance on Blue Mountain Road, near 34th Street, the sheriff intentionally rammed the fleeing vehicle to bring it to a stop, Wade said.
The driver and his passenger attempted to flee on foot, Wade said, but the driver was captured by the sheriff and chief deputy and police officers and deputies chased and captured the passenger on foot.
Police recovered money and a handgun, Wade said.
Wade was unsure of the exact identities of the suspects, but said that information was forthcoming.
