A single vehicle traffic accident in Cherokee County, near Piedmont, killed one man and sent a woman to the hospital via air ambulance early this morning. Rex Alan Milam, 45, and Melody Williamson, 28, both of Piedmont, were driving in a 1972 Ford F100 pick-up truck around 12:37 a.m. when Milam lost control of the vehicle, reported Alabama State Troopers. According to Cherokee County Coroner Don Rogers, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert. The pick-up turned over at least once, ejecting Milam, said Rogers. Milam was pronounced dead on scene, from blunt force trauma, around 1:19 a.m., Rogers said. Williamson was transported by helicopter to University of Alabama Hospitals in Birmingham but Rogers did not know her condition. Rogers said terrain was not likely a factor in the wreck. The area where it occurred is commonly known as "Aderholt Flats," he said. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by State Troopers. |
