Anniston’s big dog is no longer a stray.

Antoine McClain, the Bulldogs’ highly sought-after offensive lineman, announced he would play football for Clemson.

The 6-foot-6, 317-pound senior made the announcement in a news conference at Anniston High School at 10:30 this morning.

“Recruiting’s been fun, but I have to go with my heart,” he said.

McClain, who donned the purple and orange hat after the announcement, is rated as a four-star prospect and 13th best in the nation at his position, according to Rivals.com.

Earlier this week, he said he had narrowed his choices down to Auburn, Clemson and Tennessee. He had also been courted by LSU and Alabama among others.

Clemson won out, in part because of academics, he said this morning.

McClain’s signing came as part of the action on National Signing Day.

Foley High School receiver Julio Jones, a top-5 rated national prospect, is expected to make his college plans known in a press conference at 11:30, which will be televised on ESPNU.

Gadsden City linebacker Jerrell Harris, another four-star prospect, will announce his intentions at 2 p.m.
