Scorching weather getting you down? If it is, and nothing sounds better to you than a cold beer on a hot summer day, you’ll want to join the Children’s Services Board for a relaxing afternoon of beer tasting, where you can taste your way around the world, one brew at a time, perhaps even discovering a new favorite flavor.

Oxford’s Mellow Mushroom will close to the public from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday in order to accommodate a beer tasting, which will benefit the Parris Home. For $25 per person, guests will enjoy assorted international and gourmet beers, heavy hors d’oeuvres and, of course, Mellow Mushroom pizza and live music on the patio.

Tickets — which are going faster than a frosty mug on a hot Alabama afternoon — are available at Mellow Mushroom. Drop by and pick one up, or contact any Children’s Services board member: John Fuller, Tony Bennett, Ted Heathcock, Kelle Edwards, Scott Skinner, Kara Silvers, Brigitte Miller, Denise Webb, Cindy Prather, Karen Silvers, Jim Kirkland, Randy Laney, Justin Lord, Mike Monroe, Kay Tolbert, Cheryl Potts, Ron Allen, Cindy Phillis, Hank Smith, Shannon LeCroy or Mandi King. Tickets are limited, so don’t wait too long, or you just might not get one.

This fundraiser will provide much-needed financial assistance for the agency’s Parris Home, a group home for young people ages 6-18 in protective care.

If you cannot make the beer tasting, but would like to contribute, you may do so by sending your tax-deductible donation to Children’s Services, P. O. Box 670, Anniston, Ala., 36202. For more information, please call Mandi King at 256-235-2553.
