In a story that looks like it could have happened in our own backyard, The Birmingham News reports that a disagreement between Bessemer Mayor Ed May and City Council President Earl Cochran required police officers to get involved.
May and City Council members tonight attended a town hall meeting at Bessemer Auditorium. The council organized the meeting and invited May and the city department heads to attend to address residents' concerns.
May was attempting to address residents during the meeting when Cochran took the microphone that May was using and refused to let him finish speaking to the audience. May continued talking without the microphone and Cochran continued to keep May from addressing the audience until three police officers at the meeting had to step in and defuse the disagreement.
