Man in custody in 10-year-old Gadsden capital murder case
José Louis Ramirez was booked into the Etowah County Jail on a domestic violence charge in Gadsden on Aug. 5, 2001 — a month before José A. Garcia was killed in a drive-by shooting in Attalla. It was Stephen Hooks’ job to book him at the jail.
Ramirez was in the United States illegally and that was not his real name.
