A National Guard unit from south Alabama is shipping out for duty overseas.

About 170 members of the 1165th Military Police departed from Fairhope on Monday afternoon. Following a training stop at Camp Shelby, Miss., the troops will deploy to Afghanistan to conduct force protection missions.
