It's official: GOP promotes Rep. Spencer Bachus to chairmanship
U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Vestavia Hills, becomes the first Alabama Republican to chair a House committee since the 19th century after his fellow Republicans approved him as chair of the House Financial Services Committee.
Bachus, 62, will now lead the panel that has been in the limelight during the last three years of economic turmoil, replacing Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass.
